Pioneering African-American contralto (1897–1993) best remembered for her memorable 1939 performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after the Daughters of the American Revolution refused to let her perform for a racially mixed audience at Constitution Hall. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders photo, signed in fountain pen. Some scattered light creases and surface marks, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
