Description

Stanley Kubrick

Deceased, celebrated director whose films include A Clockwork Orange, 2001, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut. TLS signed “Stanley,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 31, 1968. Brief letter to Hollywood composer Phillip Lambro, who had hoped to score Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey. In full: “Thank you very much for your tapes. I will write as soon as I get a chance to listen to them.” In fine condition, with a staple hole to top left corner. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Kubrick ended up using preexisting music for the film’s score, and this marked the first instance of a major director using prerecorded music in a film instead of an original score, beginning a now common practice in movie making. Lambro's hopes of supplying the original score were dashed, but he later found success composing for movie soundtracks and symphonies and working alongside Leonard Bernstein. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
