Insightful TLS, one page, 7.25 x 11, personal letterhead, November 30, 1936. Mitchell writes the editor of the Lyons Daily News in Kansas. In full: “Thank you so much for the fine editorial you wrote about ‘Gone With the Wind,’ and thank you, too, for your courtesy and thoughtfulness in sending it to me. I never dreamed my book would find favor in any part of our country except this Southeastern section, so how happy I am when I read such lovely things as you wrote! Thank you especially for saying that I was fair. I tried to be, for a biased book is, to me, the dullest of all reading and defeats its own purpose. Besides, there was no bitterness or hate in my heart as I wrote. I was just working at my old trade of reporting and imaging how I would have reported the events happening between the gray covers of ‘Gone With the Wind.’” Mitchell has handwritten the word “happening” above the typed text. In fine condition, with a few spots of soiling and a mailing fold barely touching her name. Remarkable insight into the author’s most famous work. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
