American political cartoonist and illustrator (1840–1902) best known for devising the donkey and elephant symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties and the familiar ‘American’ version of Santa Claus. Ink signature, “Th: Nast, Feb 24th, 1869,” on an off-white slip. Double matted and framed, with a print of one of Nast’s works, to an overall size of 14 x 18.5.
