Description

Crisp franking signature from the first Commander-in-Chief

Crisp franking signature, “Free G. Washington,” on a 4 x 3.25 off-white slip, clipped from a larger discharge. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, trivial area of paper loss along one vertical fold, a bit of light toning, and a thin area of paper to lower right from removal of seal, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a photocopied statement from Mary Benjamin, stating “This was undoubtably cut from a discharge, judging from the paper.” A nicely-signed, well-preserved example in a desirable format. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
