Jacques Necker

French statesman of Swiss birth (1732–1804) and finance minister of Louis XVI, a post he held in the lead-up to the French Revolution in 1789. ALS in French, signed “Necker,” one page, 7.25 x 9, July 6, 1773. In full (translated): “Having no means at present, Monsieur, to what you would wish, I have spoken about it to Mme Germani and Girandot and have asked them to try and please us in that regard if they find the time.” In very good condition, with bent lower right corner, chipped lower left corner, intersecting folds, mild toning, scattered foxing, and show-through from tape stain on the reverse not affecting the text. Matted, with a portrait, to an overall size of 20 x 16. RRAuction COA.
