Description

Flight-flown restraint netting swatch, soiled with lunar dust

A .75 x .75 clipped swatch of light-flown restraint netting carried to the moon aboard Apollo 16, and soiled with lunar dust. Swatch is in a plastic holder affixed to a 1999 TLS signed by Charlie Duke, forwarding the swatch. Letter reads, “Enclosed is the swatch from the lunar netting. As you can see from the picture this is a part of the restraint netting that was snapped to the side of the LM. It is darkened from touching by our lunar surface EVA gloves that were covered in moon dust.” Each LM was supplied with a net, which was used to stow spacesuit gloves, checklists and various other items. After the astronauts returned to the Lunar Module (LM) following their lunar surface extravehicular activity, a large amount of lunar dust was inadvertently brought into the LM, some of which settled on this netting. A scarce opportunity to acquire a bit of actual lunar dust. RRAuction COA.
