Description

Apollo 1’s prime and back-up crew sign a North American Aviation print

Color 15 x 12.5 print entitled NASA Apollo Spacecraft, by the Space and Information Systems Division of North American Aviation, Inc., depicting an artist’s rendition of an Apollo capsule and service module orbiting the moon, with the three astronauts seated inside, signed in black and red felt tip by Apollo 1’s primary and back-up crew: Gus Grissom, Edward H. White II, Roger B. Chaffee, James McDivitt, Rusty Schweickart, and Dave Scott. Moderate to heavy contrast to portions of White and Grissom’s signatures, and a few mild corner creases, otherwise fine condition. Ironically, it was North American Aviation which built the Apollo Command Module, whose original suggestions in designing the capsule included that the hatch open outward and an oxygen/nitrogen mix used in the cabin, both of which were overruled by NASA. Both of these changes by NASA would be contributing factors to Grissom, White, and Chaffee perishing in the Apollo 1 fire. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
