Baltimore lawyer (1779–1843) who was inspired to write the “Star-Spangled Banner” after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British in 1814. Ink signature, “F. S. Key, US Atty, D.C.,” on an off-white slip. Double matted with a color image of Key looking at Fort McHenry from his ship, to an overall size of 14 x 16. In fine condition, with two vertical folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a crease to lower right corner. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
