William M. “Boss” Tweed

Notorious New York politician (1823–1878) whose Tammany Hall machine became synonymous with graft and corruption in American politics. DS, signed “W. M. Tweed,” one page, 8.25 x 7, August 1867. An itemized account for expenditures related to a park project for a total of $91.80. Signed at the bottom by Tweed. Expected notations and stamps, mild handling wear, and scattered light toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a Broadway Bank check from 1869, signed by Tweed associates A.
