His mixed legacy as a skilled organizer but a poor commander remains one of the great topics of debate among Civil War historians. Ink signature, “Braxton Bragg, Br: Lt. Col & Capt. 3d Cly,” on an off-white 5 x 2.25 slip. In fine condition, with a vertical fold to left of signature, and a bit of scattered light toning and soiling.
