Description

Our Town author thanks a female friend for a night out

Pulitzer Prize–winning American novelist and dramatist (1897–1975) whose works include such classics as The Bridge of San Luis Rey and Our Town. ALS signed “Thornton,” one page both sides, 6.25 x 7, personal letterhead, January 2, 1964. Letter written to Margaret after an evening spent together. In part, “Just a word to say thank you for the lovely time last night-ice, sleet, and snow outside. And to say here what ? was a true point of saying all evening (but was continually deferred by talk of anoxia-my dictionary gives anoxemia-and Leslie’s great discoveries, and so on. That is: My delight in the Metropolitan; Venice calendar. It is beautifully assembled and sets one’s head reeling. I keep returning to it over and over. I assume that you saw the exhibition in New York that it gleans from.” A couple slight brushes to text, intersecting mailing folds, and a few creases, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
