Description

The Waterloo victor offers military praise “[It] appears they behaved very courageously”

British soldier and statesman (1769–1852) who earned immortality for his stunning defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo and who later served in the British government, including a brief tenure as Prime Minister. ALS signed “W,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7.25, April 23, 1850. Wellington replies to a recently received message in his difficult-to-decipher hand, and commends the action of an individual. In part: “[It] appears they behaved very courageously.” In very good condition, with intersecting mailing folds, separations along a horizontal and vertical fold, two edge dings along the right side, and writing showing through from opposing sides. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
