“I send this Hoe-poem also to the Lincoln Memorial University because Lincoln, as every one knows, had a strong affection for the common people”

American poet and lecturer (1852–1940) whose poem of social protest, ‘The Man with the Hoe,’ brought him worldwide acclaim. Signed copy of ‘The Man with the Hoe,’ one page, 8.5 x 14, signed at the bottom in black ink. Edwin Markham, 1931.” He has added at the top of the page, “I send this Hoe-poem also to the Lincoln Memorial University because Lincoln, as every one knows, had a strong affection for the common people. E. M.” Beneath his initials he was written and then circled, “Staten Island, N. Y.” Few small tears, several horizontal folds, a uniform shade of mild toning, and a few light edge creases, otherwise in fine condition. RRAuction COA.
