ALS, one page both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 15, 1983. Letter to an admirer. In part: “My Hazel has been around for a long time, (forty years since she first appeared in the Saturday Evening Post) and it’s always good to hear the character still amuses…I was very fortunate to have Shirley Booth play Hazel on TV, because, in essence, that philosophy was hers too! We didn’t always achieve this, in my cartoon, or in the show, but we really did try…Shirley Booth, I am told, is now close to being blind. She cannot read, or watch TV but her spirit is indomitable, still, as it was when she was Hazel. What a talented and courageous person!” At the closing of the letter, Key adds a great sketch of Hazel waving. In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
