Frankfurter takes matters into his own hands for a story for Reader’s Digest: “I suggest you look at the opinion of Mr. Justice Holmes, for the Court, in Moore v. Dempsey”

Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court (1882–1965) from 1939 to 1962. ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, no date. Short letter written at the bottom of an August 1, 1960, TLS to Frankfurter from an author writing an article on Habeas Corpus for Reader’s Digest, asking for a specific reference. At the bottom of the letter, Frankfurter writes: “I suggest you look at the opinion of Mr. Justice Holmes, for the Court, in Moore v. Dempsey, 261 U.S. 86. I’m without a secretary, hence this mode of replying to you.” Scattered light creasing, heavier to top left corner, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Frankfurter’s hand. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
