Description

“In the sorrow of the event it is comforting to realize how much Joe was beloved and admired by those who, like yourself, knew him best”

Patriarch of the fabled family of American politicians (1888–1969) who served as the American ambassador to Great Britain, from 1938 to 1940 TLS signed “Sincerely, Joe,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 26, 1944. Kennedy writes Arthur J. Goldsmith following the death of Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. In full: “Thank you for writing your thoughts of Joe. In the sorrow of the event it is comforting to realize how much Joe was beloved and admired by those who, like yourself, knew him best. Our pride, thus heightened, cannot quite fill the void in our lives but your tribute to his memory is real consolation.” In fine condition, with two light creases at the top and bottom left corners and light wrinkling.
