German field marshal (1891–1944) who earned the sobriquet ‘The Desert Fox’ for his tactical genius as Commander of the Afrika Korps. In 1944 he was implicated in a plot to assassinate Hitler; given the choice of suicide or a trial, he ended his own life with poison. Untranslated four-item document, signed at the conclusion in blue pencil by Rommel as Oberst und Kommandeur (Colonel and Commander). Document bears secretarial notations on the reverse.
