Description

The Union’s Jefferson Davis

United States Army officer in the Civil War. Although successful in a number of Civil War battles, he is best remembered for two attributes: the similarity of his name to that of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his murder of a superior officer during an argument in the Civil War. Handwritten endorsement, “Approved, Jef C. Davis, Brig Genl, Jan 25 [1864],” on a 27.5 x 17 Muster Roll for Davis’s Army of the Cumberland for January 1864. Muster roll lists the officers and soldiers, horses, and transportation. In very good condition, with partial separations along intersecting folds, some scattered light soiling, and a uniform shade of mild toning. RRAuction COA.
