Description

The Elmira Express takes class notes at Syracuse the year before winning the Heisman trophy

Star running back at Syracuse University; first black player to win the Heisman Trophy (1961); drafted by the Washington Redskins and traded to Cleveland but died the following year from leukemia before playing a pro game. Handwritten and signed class notes, on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of lined notebook paper, signed in the top border on one side in blue ballpoint, “Ernie Davis,” and dated at the top, “5/12/60.” Notes appear to be for a business class, in Davis’s difficult to decipher hand, as several of the words are “Business,” “profit,” and “capitalism.” Rough left edge, and some scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. Great association between Davis and the university. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
