Manuscript DS, one page, 7.5 x 12, May 20, 1788. Document signed as governor of Massachusetts, appointing Moses Warren, a “Quartermaster of the first regiment in the third division of the Militia.” Signed on the left edge by Hancock, and countersigned at the bottom by John Avery. In good to very good condition, with uniform overall toning (slightly heavier along the edges and passing through the descender of Hancock’s initial “J”), almost complete bisecting horizontal separation, some scattered pinhole areas of paper loss along other folds, and worn but partially intact seal. The signature is large, clear, and dark, and itself rates as near fine, measuring a hearty 2.5 inches in length. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
