President and Freemason, Truman writes to the mayor of Independence

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, May 8, 1951. Letter to the mayor of Independence, Missouri, R. P. Weatherford, Jr. In part: “I am sending you a photograph of the picture which hangs in the Masonic Temple in St. Louis along with other pictures of the Grand Masters of Missouri. This is a colored picture and not a very good one. You might be able to get a better one from the Grand Lodge in St. Louis.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Truman, initiated into the Freemasons in 1909, was one of at least 14 presidents who were members of that fraternal organization. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
