TLS as president-elect, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 23, 1933. From Warm Springs, Roosevelt writes to Mrs. Lewis Thompson. In full: “I do want very much to see Senator Barbour but as I do not get back until just before Inauguration I fear it is impossible to arrange it. Will you ask him to be sure to come to see me very soon after I get to Washington? You might come with him! I have not seen my old playmate for a long time.” In very good condition, with a uniform shade of mild toning over text and signature, a bit heavier at edges, staple holes to top, and light show-through from adhesive on reverse. FDR’s inauguration on March 4, 1933 occurred in the middle of a bank panic, hence the backdrop for his famous words: ‘The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.’ Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
