Distinguished American poet (1807–1882) who produced such timeless classics as “Paul Revere’s Ride,” “The Song of Hiawatha,” and “Evangeline.” Among other distinctions, he was the first American honored with a sculpted likeness in the Poet’s Corner of Westminster Abbey. Intense 4.25 x 6.5 Sarony cabinet portrait (and so noted along the bottom) showing Longfellow suspiciously peering directly into the camera, signed in black ink, “Henry W. Longfellow.” In very good condition, with scattered scuffing, a small tear to right edge, crease to lower right corner and crack to upper left corner, old mounting remnants along bottom, and several letters of the signature a bit light. Despite its several flaws, this is a great pose! Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
