American scientist and inventor (1909–1991) who pioneered inexpensive polarizing filters and, with his development of “instant” photography, built his company, Polaroid, into an industry giant. He was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s richest scientist. Original one-of-a-kind glossy 4.25 x 5.5 Polaroid photo of Land looking to his left, signed in the lower border in black fountain pen. Unobtrusive cracking to the ink and areas of light discoloration to the image, otherwise fine condition. While he was known for his advances in photography, Land was very reluctant signer of photographs; this example, fittingly a Polaroid, is both rare and unique. Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
