Description

Early portrait of a ‘sleepy’ starlet presented to her voice coach

Academy Award winning actress. Very early glossy 8 x 9.75 Helen Merrill photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Mrs. C—I may not be your best pupil—but I’m certainly the sleepiest! Love—Joanne.” Scattered creasing, marks, and surface scratches (a few touching her face), chip to the emulsion on the left edge, and past exposure to moisture that has blurred the ink on “Mrs.” and “I,” causing faint staining, otherwise very good condition. This photo, originally presented to Woodward’s voice teacher, was also used in a 1953 Screen Actors Guild book of actors and actresses. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
