ALS signed “S. L. Clemens,” one page, 4 x 6, black-bordered mourning stationery letterhead, no date. Letter to N[orman] H[apgood]. Headed at the top, “Dublin (don’t know the date).” In full: “The more I think of it the more it pleases me. There certainly is a chance to start that new platform, & McClure, with his earnestness & energy & staying power is the man to drive it home to success if any one can. I want to thank you for the interest you have taken in it.” In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold, and a bit of light edge wear. While there is no date on the letter, it is most likely written in the summer of 1905 while Clemens stayed in Dublin, NH. An enthusiastic letter from Clemens as he looks forward to a “new platform.” Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
