Once part of a larger document, labeled “A Copy,” in Lincoln’s hand, of a February 1840 promissory note for $200 which was to have been paid “with interest at the branch of the State Bank of Illinois at Vandalia.” Document continues “’For value recd I assign the within to Zadcock Casey without recourse to me or my being responsible.” Matted with a CDV portrait of Lincoln, to an overall size of 13.5 x 17.5. In very good condition, with two horizontal folds, scattered toning, soiling, and creasing, a few small edge tears, and some light pencil notations to lower left. Accompanied by a typescript on Lincoln Library, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, letterhead. Over sixty-five words in Lincoln’s hand. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
