German artist (1891–1969) best known for his Expressionist depictions of Weimar society and the brutality of war. ALS in German, one page both sides, 8.25 x 11.75, personal letterhead, September 2, 1948. Letter of thanks to his friend and art collector, Justin Upper Room. In part (translated): “Fat is very necessary. I have photos of the latest pictures, unfortunately, not yet, we have to watch every penny before we spend it, because it will not sell anything. I have lately made lithographs, which are more likely to buy again because the play only 30 DM costs…If you have interest in graphics I would give you like who send. We do, if I even sent an oil picture, a screen would in part? I have [a beautiful oil painting with blossoming apple trees, a still life with mushrooms and a Feldmohnstrauß.] I will, this, because they are not great, can be dispatched easily per image costs 500 DM.” In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, and a uniform shade of mild toning.
