Frederick Treves

British surgeon (1853–1923) who saved Edward VII’s life with an emergency appendectomy shortly before the coronation and who served as the personal physician to ‘Elephant Man’ John Merrick. Partial ALS, one page both sides, trimmed to a size of 4.5 x 5, Thatched House Lodge letterhead, August 12, 1915. Short letter to Perry, labeled at the top by Treves “Private and confidential.” In part: “Enclosed is a letter from Lord Curgon which explains itself. I have never seen the patient (as Lord Curgon assumes) nor have I shared in his condition.” In fine condition, with aforementioned trimmed edge and some scattered light soiling. RRAuction COA.
