Description

The newly named Baron Lister

British surgeon (1827–1912) who pioneered the practice of sterile surgery, one of the most important medical advances of the day. His name later became synonymous with a best-selling brand of antiseptic mouthwash. LS, one page, 4.5 x 7, January 9, 1897, black-bordered. Upon being named Baron Lister, the surgeon writes to Sir Archibald. In full: “I need hardly assure you that your kind letter of congratulations has given great pleasure to yours very truly.” In fine condition, with small spot of soiling near the start of the salutation.
