Description

Declaration of Independence: John Penn

Endorsement signature, “J. Penn,” on a 6.5 x 4 partial manuscript document dated August 7, 1788. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (short split along one fold directly under Penn’s signature), clipped paper loss to top edge of document, and some light toning and soiling. Penn’s signature is essentially unaffected by the flaws. In his 1995 reference History Comes to Life, Kenneth Rendell places Penn’s autograph material into the “very rare” category among the Signers—an echelon second only to that occupied by the virtually unobtainable Gwinnett and Lynch. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
