Description

“While we were making the Guns of Navarone, David Niven became terribly ill from a rare disease of some kind”

Screenwriter and film producer who was blacklisted by the Hollywood movie studio bosses in the 1950s. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, MCA letterhead, August 16, 1983. Letter to an admirer reminiscing about David Niven. In part: “I do remember a time when, while we were making the Guns of Navarone, David Niven became terribly ill from a rare disease of some kind, for a time there was concern that he might, in fact, die, and this was naturally of great concern to us all, entirely apart from the fact that the film was not finished and one or two of his most important scenes were yet to be shot…I particularly remember one night, which was a night of crisis, when a number of us gathered together and prayed in his own way.” In fine condition, with some light rippling. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
