Four ALSs, one dated 1840 on Institution for the Blind stationery and three undated, with two addressed to a Miss Putnam. One letter reads, in part: “The truth is I have never taken any pains with my compositions—feeling that the mediocrity I might attain by an effort would not be worth that effort.” In overall very good condition, with a few tiny tears, intersecting folds, expected handling wear, and an even shade of toning.
