‘Fightin’ Joe’ attends the Mexican president’s inauguration

Confederate major general (1836–1906), known as “Fightin’ Joe,” who led his troops in vigorous opposition to Sherman during the Atlanta campaign. ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Hotel Sanz letterhead, December 1, 1904. Letter to his daughters while in Mexico. In full: “Functions are continuous today. At ten AM we (a few American) were at the inauguration of President Diaz. At 12 to 2 seeing ladies at American Club at four received by President Diaz and at 9 PM a very few are expected to see Mr. Diaz.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a uniform shade of light toning, and some light mirroring of ink. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Wheeler’s hand. RRAuction COA.
