Description

Rockwell sends one of his paintbrushes...along with an original drawing

Original sketch of a dog with a tin can tied to its tail on an off white 9 x 10.75 card, signed and inscribed in black felt tip: “My best wishes to Selwyn G. Gamble, cordially, Norman Rockwell.” Taped to the bottom of the page is a paintbrush and Rockwell’s notation, “Thanks for the brush, here’s one of mine.” Double cloth matted and framed to an overall size of 24.25 x 16.5. In fine condition, with some toning from the tape and toning under the brush.

The original recipient—an enterprising autograph collector—certainly knew how to get Rockwell’s attention. Rather than submit a mundane letter, he took his enthusiasm for the artist’s work to the next level and crafted what must have been quite a notable submission. Of course, the addition of a paintbrush must not have hurt when it came to catching Rockwell’s eye, and the collector was rewarded not only with an original sketch (undoubtedly the original intent) but a bonus! An amazing artifact from one of America’s greatest artists. Oversized. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
