Louis B. Mayer

Russian-born American film producer (1882–1957) who formed a film company in 1918 and merged with Samuel Goldwyn to form industry powerhouse Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1924. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios letterhead, January 31, 1935. Letter to J. Robert Rubin concerning the acquisition of rights for a Robin Hood feature. In part: “Arrangements have been made through the Lichtig & Englander Agency, under the terms of which we acquire an option which may be exercised at any time up to and including March 29th, 1935, to purchase motion picture, sound and television rights in and to the book ‘Robin Hood of El Dorado’ by Walter Noble Burns, published by Coward McCann, Inc….and registered for copyright by and in the name of the publisher, January 22, 1932….The author died in 1932. Consideration for this option is $500.00, which may be applied against total purchase price of $5000.00 in the event option is exercised.” Small tear along a mailing fold, light edge toning, two punch holes at top edge, a few notations in pencil, and a PSA/DNA authentication label affixed to the reverse, otherwise fine condition.
