Accused of being a spy under the provisions of the 1938 Foreign Agents Registration Act, she was jailed for more than a year in 1942–43. Despite the support of such notables as Eddie Rickenbacker, Ingalls was never pardoned. Two flight-flown air mail envelopes, 6.5 x 3.5, both carried by Ingalls with one bearing a typed notation that it was carried on her transcontinental flight from California to New Jersey.
