As Massachusetts governor, a Founding Father promotes a captain following 20 years of independence

Partly-printed DS, one page, 14.5 x 9, July 18, 1796. Adams appoints William Adams, a “Captain of a Company in the Seventh Regiment of the Second Brigade, Third Division.” Signed in the upper left in black ink under the embossed seal. In good condition, with professionally repaired tears to the seal area (some of which affects the last name), professional repairs to a few separations, mostly uniform toning, lightly trimmed edges, light show-through from docketing on reverse, and light staining. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
