Daniel Webster

Esteemed American politician and orator (1782–1852) who was a longtime member of Congress and who served as secretary of state under Harrison and Tyler. Two ALSs mounted to one sheet: ALS signed “Danl Webster,” one page, 5 x 7, February 8, 1834. Letter to Honorable Mr. Bell inviting him to dinner. In full: “Will you do me the favor to dine with me tomorrow, at 5 o’clock, with a few friends?” Integral address leaf attached; and an ALS signed “D. Webster,” one page, 5 x 8, November 12, 1831. Letter to an unknown recipient regarding interest on a note. In fine condition, with scattered soiling, toning, and spots from mounting residue on both, a brief article affixed to the reverse of the integral page of the first letter, edge chipping to the second letter, and a clipped catalog entry from a 1949 sale of these items affixed to the bottom of the sheet.
