German artist (1891–1969) best known for his Expressionist depictions of Weimar society and the brutality of war. ALS in German, signed “Professor Otto Dix,” one page, 8.25 x 11.75, May 23, 1964. Dix sends condolences to the recent widow of an old friend. In part (translated): “The Death of your dear husband has shaken me and my wife very much. So now all the old friends pass away. What you have to endure great loss, we can appreciate both, we miss our dear daughter Nelly.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and red pencil mark to top margin.
