William Dean Howells

American author and editor (1837–1920) best known as the editor of the influential periodical Atlantic Monthly from 1871 to 1881 and as the author of the novel The Rise of Silas Lapham (1885) and the short story “Editha” (1905). AQS from one of his works on an 8 x 4.5 off-white slip, signed “W. D. Howells” and dated August 26, 1873. In part, “A leaf that, in bird, haunted air, May be mistaken for a bird.” In fine condition, with trimmed edges and faint uniform toning. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
