Description

“I always felt that the added footage was a mistake & should never have been done”

TLS, one page, 6 x 7, personal letterhead, August 22, 1956. Laurel writes to a fan club president. In part: “Thanks (for) your letter with news clipping re L&H in the ‘Our Yesterdays’ column of the Baltimore ‘Evening Sun’ the the 15th inst. issue. I noted a couple of minor statements that were not correct, the team was formed 1927 not ‘29. Our first feature was a background parody on an M.G.M. picture ‘The Big House,’ & was originally made by us as a two reel short, we previewed it in about 3-1/2 reel length with intention of cutting it down to 2 reels, it turned out such a success in that length that Mr. Roach decided not to cut it down, but to add more footage & release it as a feature length. The 2 reel title was ‘The Rap’ then was changed to ‘Pardon Us’. However, I always felt that the added footage was a mistake & should never have been done.” In fine condition, with two very faint creases and pencil erasure at top right corner. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
