TLS, one page, 7.75 x 10, January 24, 1901. Letter to Mr. King regarding a public speaker. In part: “Mr. Bagehot was not a successful public speaker, and so far as I know, has left no address of any kind. He once ran for a seat in the House of Commons, but felt very ill at ease on the hustings, and did not try his fortune a second time. His style was eminently suitable for incisive public address, but his disposition, it seems, was not.” Intersecting folds, with tape repairs to reverse of central horizontal fold, mild toning, a few creases, and a paperclip impression to top edge, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
