Description

A verbally assaulting rebuke sent on visually striking circus stationery:”I…must decline to have anything further to do with you”

TLS signed “J. A. Bailey,” one page, 8.25 x 11, ornate, information-laden, and visually striking Barnum and Bailey Greatest Show On Earth letterhead, December 26, 1895. Letter to M. J. Mahan in Charlton City, Massachusetts. In full: “My letter to you of Dec. 12th was very explicit, and as you did not accept the terms offered you, but in reply stated that you wanted other terms different from those offered you. I regret that any misunderstanding has occurred and must decline to have anything further to do with you, and as we have and cannot agree, please consider all negotiations off, no contract being consummated between, I decline now to make any.” Intersecting folds, and a small tear and creasing to bottom edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original Barnum and Bailey mailing envelope, which also bears vignettes of both men. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
