I’ve only mentioned to a few people that in my fianl [sic] Mike Hammer book, he and Velda get married…After fifty some years together, I think it’s about time. Fortunately, they’re still young; only the world got older. I have just finished an adventure novel called ‘Something’s Down There’…now I can get into the Hammer job (which is one third done) and not to have to hurry typing. Time has finally caught up with me and though I have a full head of hair and don’t need eyeglasses yet (!) my almost-eighty one years has bumped me off the big ski slopes to Chicken Little Hill, edged me out of airplanes even with six thousand hours and a commercial license and current physical certificate. So I go down kicking, but how can I fight it? Trouble is I can’t retire…Now I’ll finish getting Mike and Velda married.” In fine condition, with a few light creases. RRAuction COA.
