In full: “I have had the honour of receiving your Letters of 6th August last and of the 25th instant enclosing (the former) a petition from Asa Hosmer and others confined in prison at the Havanna [sic]. It is the intention of the President that a public armed Vessel shall be dispatched to that place, with a view to obtain their release.” Letter is archivally sleeved in acid-free Mylar.
