Description

The smiling princess shows her support for spinal research

Color satin-finish 7 x 5 photo of Diana seated outside Kensington Palace with four others after the completion of a 1996 fundraiser for spinal research, affixed to a 10.5 x 9.5 white mount. Signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “Dearest Simon, Lots of Love, from Diana” beneath the image on the mount. In very fine condition, with the writing a shade light. Handsomely displayed in its original black leather frame with Diana’s gilt monogram at the top; these special frames were ordered by Diana and given only to particular people.

The original recipient of this photo was Simon Barnes, who suffered a spinal cord injury in 1984 and later became highly involved in spinal cord research. In 1986, he and two other paraplegics made an 800-mile sponsored wheelchair ride to raise money for that cause, which gained him the attention of Diana and an ultimate friendship. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
