Vintage red ballpoint Beatles signatures, all done in the hand of John Lennon,”To Stephanie from the Beatles, John Lennon xxx, All is Forgiven,” “Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison xxx,” and “Ringo Starr xxx,” on an off-white 6 x 4 sheet affixed by its right edge to a slightly larger light yellow album page, still contained in its original autograph album originally owned by Stephanie Lee of Blackpool, an obviously rabid fan. Also affixed to the page is a small ballpoint sketch of a “B-shaped” Beetle drawn by Lennon, an August 30, 1963, Liverpool postmark, and the collector’s notation which reads, “Wrote to John at Southport. I apologized for pulling his hair at the ABC,” which would explain Lennon’s forgiveness. Affixed to the page opposite the signatures is a ticket stub from the Beatles show at the ABC Cinema on September 8, 1963, with further notations decribing Lee’s meeting the band, as well as a clipped photo of Lennon. Also included is a small envelope containing several strands of Lennon’s hair!
Also included in the envelope are signatures of other British bands including The Hollies, Manfred Mann, and Gerry Marsden, who appears three times in the album, as well as clipped photos, interesting notations and observations, and other names and addresses. The signed sheet has a central vertical fold, several other creases, notation along bottom, and some toning under Lennon’s signature from adhesive on reverse, and rates in otherwise fine condition. The remainder of the album rates overall very good, with expected handling wear of a young admirer.
Lennon was truly willing to give peace a chance, even turning the other cheek after being faced by an adoring mob reaching, grabbing, and tugging at the Beatles...and their hair. Stephanie was “lucky” enough to come away with a few strands, but the remorseful Beatlemaniac later apologized for her enthusiasm, as noted here, with Lennon playfully acknowledging that “all is forgiven.” A unique signed piece, with John signing for each member of the Fab Four so as not to disappoint a fan.
