Massachusetts lawyer (1731–1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Two items: DS, one page both sides, 7.5 x 6.5, February 7, 1767. Partly printed document, signed “Paine,” upside down in the lower left corner on the reverse of a judgement against Elijah Tisdale, who is in debt to Paine but had to be forced to pay. An accounting of an earlier debt owed by Tisdale is affixed to front of judgement with wax; and a docketing signature, “R. T. Paine, Secy,” on an off-white 7.5 x 1.5 slip removed from a larger document. In very good condition, with scattered toning to folds, and light wrinkling and soiling.
